Blueberries are starting to arrive and Pick- Your Own location, Wilmot Orchards opening next week!
Blueberries always make me think of long hot summer days..
Some of my greatest summer memories involve picking wild blueberries up north while on wilderness camping trips. I’m not sure many of the blueberries made it back to the campsite. I probably ate 3 for every 1 I put in my container! I don’t get up to the wild blueberry patches much anymore, but I’m not missing anything because we have delicious, local blueberries right here in Durham Region!
Local, Durham Blueberries taste just as juicy and sweet as their wild cousins and are much easier to find! I know that I will be out at the Pick-Your-Own field, filling as many containers as I can hold.
Suggestions for blueberries:
- Blueberry smoothies are a great way to start the day
- Mix with yogurt and freeze into Popsicle form
- Make Jam and Jelly
- Blueberry Pie
